One of my New Year's Resolutions this year was to run a marathon. I had a baby in September and I really wanted to do a 'post baby marathon.' As I searched for the perfect race to run, I couldn't find a local one that fit my schedule so I chose the Utah Valley Marathon. I was excited for the race but traviling made the logistics a little more difficult. While the altitude, time change, etc was an issue, I think my biggest was leaving my baby for four whole days. Luckily, my husband was willing to have some baby/daddy bonding time and told me to go have "fun." It's interesting how it takes so much more effort to achieve my goals now that I'm a mom. I think that's what makes it all the more rewarding.
The girls below are two of my best friends. Along with some family that live in the area, they came to cheer me on to the finish. As you work to achieve your running goals, don't be afraid to reach out to your family and friends for support. Even though I usually run alone, I've found that it's a team sport. Without my other team members, I can't win.

I'm so proud of you Emily! You're an inspiration to me!
I would have been a better friend if I had actually run with you:( It was really fun to watch you come in at the end. That was my first marathon experience.
